France and Britain to hold conference on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

France and the United Kingdom will organize an international conference to discuss ensuring the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz without participating in the war between the United States and Israel against Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated.

“In the coming days, together with the United Kingdom, we will organize a conference involving countries ready to join us in contributing to a multinational peaceful mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strait. This strictly defensive mission, unrelated to the warring parties, will be deployed as soon as the situation allows,” he wrote on his page on the social network X.

The head of state emphasized the need for a swift, lasting, and long-term resolution of the conflict through diplomatic means. To achieve this, he said, it is necessary to find a long-term solution to issues such as Iran’s missile and nuclear programs, as well as its “destabilizing activities” in the region.

At the same time, Macron mentioned the need, in addition to restoring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, to also achieve “the return of Lebanon to the path of peace with full respect for its sovereignty,” stating France’s readiness to contribute to this process.
