Russian Ministry of Defense claims it has no intention of forcing students to participate in 'SVO'

Signing a contract with the Russian armed forces is a voluntary decision, and the Russian Ministry of Defense has no intention of forcing students to sign such contracts, stated Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia and Chief of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Armed Forces, General of the Army Viktor Goremykin, during an interdepartmental meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, heads of universities, and general education organizations.

«The basis of the contract is the principle of voluntariness. We have no intention of forcing students to participate in the SVO. With citizens joining the unmanned systems troops, the contract is concluded for a term of one year. Responsibility for timely dismissal lies with commanders and personnel bodies, as well as the Main Personnel Directorate, which maintains personal records,» Goremykin is quoted by TASS.

He also emphasized that the Russian military department strictly fulfills all obligations it has undertaken regarding citizens’ military service in unmanned systems troops.

In Russia, the war against Ukraine is referred to as a «Special Military Operation» («SVO»).
