Trump violates protocol during meeting with King of Great Britain - VIDEO
US President Donald Trump violated protocol by patting King Charles III of Great Britain on the shoulder.
This was reported by the publication Daily Mail.
"Trump patted the King on the shoulder as a sign of affection, thereby breaching royal protocol. ..., an unwritten rule states: never initiate physical contact with a member of the royal family," the publication states.
As noted by body language expert Judi James, the gesture could have had a political nature. Additionally, the touch was "the first real gesture of active, 'special' friendship on Trump's part."
Earlier, Reuters reported that during preparations for Charles III's visit to the United States, Australian flags were mistakenly displayed near the White House in Washington instead of British ones.
Charles III's visit is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence from British rule and is currently considered the most significant trip since the monarch's coronation.
