Iran's Foreign Ministry: EU sanctions against the republic demonstrate community's hypocrisy
The EU's anti-Iranian sanctions demonstrate the community's double standards and hypocrisy.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the lifting of sanctions against Iran premature, noting that the EU first wants to see a "fundamental change in behavior" from Tehran. As part of the restrictions against Iran, the EU has blacklisted several hundred individuals and entities from the country, which entails the freezing of their assets in Europe and a ban on entry into EU territory.
"It (the EU's rhetoric on anti-Iranian sanctions – ed.) only once again demonstrates the double standards and hypocrisy of Europe's ruling class and accelerates the shameful decline of the EU," he wrote on X.
Baghaei noted that "EU sanctions against Iran have never been related to human rights"; they were aimed at ordinary Iranian citizens, which does not add credibility to the community on the global stage.
In addition, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that the seizure of Iranian commercial vessels in international waters and the detention of their crews by the United States constitute "piracy." In his view, the US must "bear full responsibility for the blatant lawlessness" that undermines international law and the safety of maritime navigation.
