In Mali, there are casualties among the Russian 'African Corps' during attacks

Following an attack by rebels in Mali, there are casualties on the side of the Russian Ministry of Defense's 'African Corps.'

This was reported by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Georgy Borisenko during a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

'On April 25, coordinated sorties by terrorist groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda (banned in Russia - note by TASS), as well as Tuareg separatists, took place in Mali. Through joint efforts, they struck the armed forces of this country in many parts and, unfortunately, units of our 'African Corps.' As a result, there are casualties on our side as well,' the deputy minister stated.

According to the latest reports from Russia's Ambassador to Mali, Igor Gromyko, the situation in the capital, Bamako, is calm, the diplomat noted. Nevertheless, clashes continued in some regions of the country.

'Unfortunately, the northern city of Kidal has been captured by Tuareg separatists and remains in their hands,' he said at the meeting of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. 'Clashes continued in some regions of the country. The capture of the city of Kidal in the north by the rebels poses a significant problem.'

Units of radical groups, in coordinated actions on April 25, attacked several cities in Mali. The Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Sadio Camara, was killed. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mali reported on the same day that all militant attacks were repelled, and significant damage was inflicted on them.
