As reported by Reuters, this was stated to lawmakers during a meeting of the House Armed Services Committee by a senior Pentagon official, Acting Budget Controller Jules Hurst.
He noted that the majority of the funds were spent on ammunition. However, the Pentagon representative did not specify what exactly was included in the cost estimate and whether projected expenses for the restoration and repair of basic infrastructure damaged during the conflict in the Middle East were taken into account.
Reuters notes that $25 billion is equivalent to NASA's annual budget.
