Ghalibaf mocks US policy shift in Middle East conflict
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has ironically criticized the actions of the US in the conflict with Iran.
"Operation 'Trust me, bro' has failed. Now we’re back to the usual 'Operation Fauxios,'" he stated in his post. The word Fauxios is likely a play on words, combining 'faux' (fake, counterfeit) with the name of the portal Axios.
On May 6, US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of Operation Project Freedom, which aimed to organize the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz and was launched two days earlier, pending information that negotiations on a deal with Iran could be successfully concluded and an agreement reached.
Later, the Axios portal claimed that Washington and Tehran are close to signing a one-page memorandum to end the armed conflict. A representative of the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, stated that Iran is still considering the US proposals and will later convey its response to the Pakistani side.
