Zakharova: Baku's decision to end contacts with European Parliament is not surprising

Azerbaijan's decision to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament is not surprising given the policy of this structure toward sovereign states.

This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing in Moscow.

Commenting on Baku's decision, Zakharova emphasized that Azerbaijan is not the only state to face 'rudeness, disrespect, and direct interference in internal affairs' from the European Parliament.

'This is a sovereign decision by Baku to end contacts with the so-called European Parliament. This decision does not cause surprise,' she said.

Maria Zakharova sharply criticized the resolutions adopted by the European Parliament, calling them 'not just politicized, but fake.' 'This structure, like a broken printer, endlessly churns out such documents,' noted the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

She also stated that the language of the European Parliament's resolutions toward third countries carries an 'arrogant, lecturing tone, as if some metropolis is speaking to its colonies.'

According to the diplomat, the European Parliament 'has long turned into a mouthpiece for Brussels' new ultra-liberal directives' and 'has nothing to do with democracy.' She also accused the structure of spreading fakes, suppressing freedom of speech, and manipulating history.

At the same time, Zakharova noted that Azerbaijan continues to engage with other European structures. 'Baku continues dialogue with other European structures, but again, it has the sovereign right to do so,' she emphasized.
