Armenia's prosecutor general presents list of property to be confiscated from Kocharyan and other opposition figures
The true reason behind all the speeches of opposition deputies, as well as the attacks on the prosecutor's office and personally on the prosecutor general, is the concern caused by the lawsuits filed by the prosecutor's office for the confiscation of illegally obtained property.
Armenia's Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan stated this. Speaking in parliament, Vardapetyan listed the illegal property and funds demanded from former President Robert Kocharyan, former Deputy Prime Minister and deputy Armen Gevorgyan, as well as deputies Ishkhan Saghatelyan and Aghvan Vardanyan. From them and persons associated with them, it is demanded to confiscate a number of real estate properties, bonds, deposits, shares in legal entities, loan claims, and other illegal incomes amounting to millions in favor of the Republic of Armenia. The case is currently at the stage of preliminary court hearings.
"What is interesting: when we ask about the origin of property of illegal origin, we hear three explanations: 'received as a gift, our grandfathers were wealthy, our sons are talented.' The courts will still consider the issue of 'grandfathers and talented sons,'" Anna Vardapetyan stated.
