As soon as possible: Ursula von der Leyen on liberalization of visa regime between Armenia and EU

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlined the prospects for liberalizing the visa regime with Armenia.

Notably, she did not mention any specific timelines, limiting herself to general remarks.

At a briefing with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to a question about the process and timelines for visa liberalization, von der Leyen stated that Armenia is the only partner engaged in such an active dialogue with the EU on this issue, which demonstrates the level of cooperation. The European politician referred to the April report on the implementation of the program and announced that a mission will visit the republic in the fall to assess achievements. According to von der Leyen, once Armenia meets all the points, the parties will move to liberalizing the regime, but reforms are necessary for this.

Pashinyan, in turn, stated that during the election campaign he had spoken about the fact that by 2029 there would be a "liberalization situation." He agreed that much depends on us, on the quality of the reform. Pashinyan emphasized that the Armenian people are waiting for this decision and voted in favor of it in the elections. "We cannot miss this opportunity, we will make every effort to resolve this issue," Pashinyan promised.
