Rubinyan will not be special representative for Turkey

Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and candidate for the post of speaker Ruben Rubinyan stated that if elected he will cease performing the duties of special representative for the normalization of relations with Turkey.

According to him, media claims that his nomination for the post of speaker is a "gesture towards Turkey" do not correspond to reality.

"If I am elected speaker of parliament, I will not continue to perform the duties of special representative for the normalization of relations with Turkey. Consequently, about 90% of this conspiracy theory immediately collapses," Rubinyan told journalists.

Answering a question about a possible successor to the post of special representative, he noted that this issue has not been discussed yet.

When asked whether current parliament speaker Alen Simonyan could take this position, Rubinyan replied that he does not consider such an option likely.

The ruling "Civil Contract" faction nominated Rubinyan for the post of speaker of parliament on June 25.
