More than 840,000 homes in the US left without electricity due to heat

More than 840,000 households in the US have been left without electricity amid extreme heat and stormy weather.

The total number of outages amounted to at least 843,000. The states of Michigan (385,000), New Jersey (179,000), Pennsylvania (66,000), Illinois (54,000), Ohio (46,000), Wisconsin (20,000), New York (16,000) and Indiana (11,000) were particularly affected.

Previously, it was reported that the abnormal heat that engulfed the central and eastern states of the US disrupted mass events dedicated to the country's Independence Day. Due to the high temperature, authorities in Washington and dozens of other American cities were forced to cancel or postpone traditional holiday parades, concerts and fireworks.

In some areas of the eastern United States, such as New York and Washington, temperatures could become the highest in more than a decade, and numerous temperature records will be broken in the coming days.
