Uraloglu: New road from Kars to Dilucu will strengthen Turkey's railway connection with Azerbaijan and Armenia

The under-construction Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu railway will strengthen Turkey's railway connection with Azerbaijan and Armenia, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said.

According to him, $355 billion has been invested in Turkey's transport and infrastructure sectors over the past 24 years: "This has become the largest investment program in the country's history."

"Under the strategy until 2053, an integrated high-speed rail network is planned that will connect all regions of the country, allowing the whole of Turkey to be traveled in 48 hours," Uraloglu said.

He also recalled that since 2002, the development of railways has become one of the priorities of state policy: "Investments in the railway sector have changed not only the transport system, but also the economy and urban development. While the length of the railway network was about 11,000 km in 2002, today it has reached almost 14,009 km, of which 2,251 km are high-speed train lines. We have modernized a railway network with a length of 11,000 kilometers."

Construction of high-speed railway lines is currently underway: Halkali-Kapikule; Ankara-Izmir; Bandirma-Bursa-Yenisehir-Osmaneli; Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep.

In addition, a new railway line is planned on the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which will become an alternative route across the Bosphorus Strait along with Marmaray. According to the minister, after the completion of tender procedures, construction is planned to begin this year.
