NATO will produce American weapons in Europe
NATO will establish production of American weapons in Europe, including Abrams tanks, ATACMS missiles and the Stinger portable SAM system.
This was announced by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the defense industry forum in Ankara, RIA Novosti reports.
He said that the US authorities and several leading American defense companies have agreed on new industrial cooperation initiatives with the largest European players in the defense industry.
“This will allow us to produce or service here in Europe key American weapons such as Abrams tanks, AMRAAM, ATACMS, Barracuda 500M missiles, Small Diameter Bomb aerial bombs and Stinger missiles,” Rutte said.
The Secretary General of the bloc also announced the launch of the NATO Engine initiative, which should unite the production capacities of allies on both sides of the Atlantic to create a network of factories and modern production sites.
