Greenland is not for sale: Denmark's prime minister responds to Trump

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has again rejected the possibility of selling Greenland.

She said this during the 36th NATO summit of heads of state and government taking place in Ankara, commenting on a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump that "Greenland should be under U.S. control."

According to Frederiksen, Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, "does not intend to become part of the United States."

"Greenland, of course, is not for sale. We have clearly stated this from the very beginning," the prime minister said.

The prime minister also noted that she expects NATO to confirm respect for Denmark's sovereignty.

U.S. President Donald Trump again raised the issue of Greenland's status during his visit to Ankara, where he arrived to participate in the North Atlantic Alliance summit. The White House chief stated that the island is of great importance to Washington and should be under American control.
