The US Mint will release the first non-round coin in modern US history, "Liberty Bell - Freedom Bell".
This was reported by the press service of the Mint.
According to its information, the bell-shaped coin will be issued for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US. The obverse of the coin will feature a bell with a crack and the inscription Liberty, the dates 1776 - 2026 and the motto "In God We Trust".
The reverse will feature Independence Hall against a backdrop of fireworks, the inscription "United States of America", the motto "E Pluribus Unum" in Latin.
The issuance of commemorative coins is a long-standing tradition in the US. The most popular in history was the coin dedicated to the Statue of Liberty, issued in 1986 and sold in a circulation of almost 15.5 million copies. Also successful were issues dedicated to the 250th anniversary of George Washington, the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the bicentennial of the US Constitution.
