EU plans to build three checkpoints in Armenia
The European Union plans to build three checkpoints in Armenia, and the first necessary condition for the implementation of these programs will be the demining of territories.
As Armenpress reports, this was stated by the Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia Vasilis Maragos at a briefing for journalists in Yerevan, presenting a modern demining machine donated to Armenia by the European Union.
Answering the question whether this machine will serve only to ensure the safety of the border population or also for infrastructure projects, Maragos said that it will be of great importance in both directions.
“For communication projects, demining of the territories through which they will pass is required. We have committed to building three checkpoints and are now working on the details of this program. However, demining will be the first necessary step so that these important construction works can move forward,” noted Maragos, without specifying on which sections the construction of border checkpoints is planned.
He added that the European Union will continue to deepen cooperation with Armenia, investing both in security and in infrastructure development. According to the EU Ambassador to Armenia, the EU is consistently working to deepen relations with Armenia, and this cooperation is already bringing tangible results for the citizens of Armenia. “We are working to deepen relations between the EU and Armenia, and this brings very concrete benefits to the Armenian people. The European Union has invested in ensuring the security of the population affected by the conflict through various programs, as well as the activities of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia (EUMA). Now we are also investing in saving lives, cooperating with Armenia's demining structure,” emphasized Vasilis Maragos, specifying that the demining machine transferred to Armenia was produced in Croatia and is a concrete manifestation of the solidarity of European taxpayers with Armenia.
