Meloni turns away from Trump while preparing for group photo in Ankara
The 36th NATO summit in Ankara is taking place against the backdrop of discussions on key issues of international security, but media attention is also focused on diplomatic contacts and relations between world leaders.
During preparations for the group photograph of leaders at the 36th NATO summit, which is taking place in Ankara under the chairmanship of Turkey, an episode involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni drew attention.
On the published footage, it is visible that at the moment when Trump was heading to the place for the group photograph, Meloni turned her head in the opposite direction.
After that, the American president continued moving and took his place in accordance with protocol.
The episode once again drew attention to reports of tension between the two politicians. Earlier, Trump published a post on social media in which, commenting on a photo with Meloni, he wrote: "A restraining order is needed to approach."
According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Meloni also appealed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with a request not to place her next to Trump during official events of the summit.
