Canadian prime minister hands over revolver gifted by Erdogan to police

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney handed over to the Canadian police the revolver that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave him at the NATO summit in Ankara.

CTV television channel reported this.

According to journalists, the weapon was handed over to officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (national police) who accompanied the prime minister. At the same time, it was decided to leave the cartridges for the pistol in Turkey. The channel's source explained that the pistol will later be made unfit for firing, after which it may be transferred for storage to one of the Canadian museums. Carney will not use it.

The Canadian Foreign Ministry clarified to CTV that Erdogan gave revolvers and cartridges to all leaders who took part in the NATO summit.

Earlier, Politico reported that the Turkish president presented pistols with engraving and live ammunition to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and EU leaders as a farewell gift after the NATO summit.

The NATO summit was held in Ankara on July 7-8.
