Peskov: Trump is mistaken in believing that escalation in Ukraine will help peace

Russia considers the statements by U.S. leader Donald Trump that the escalation of hostilities between the Russian Federation and Ukraine will contribute to a speedy peaceful settlement not as a desire for escalation, but as a delusion on the part of the United States.

This was noted at a briefing by Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, answering a question from TASS.

"No, we do not see it," he replied to the question of whether the statements made in Ankara are seen as a return by the U.S. to the path of escalating relations with Russia. "Rather, we see some delusions in the [U.S.] administration, the White House — delusions regarding the fact that through escalation, through military pressure, it is possible to contribute to reaching a peaceful track of settlement."

"This is an erroneous judgment," added the Kremlin representative. "Heightening tension, actions in the vein of escalation will in no way contribute to the peace process."
