The European Commission confirmed that its head Ursula von der Leyen received a revolver with six live cartridges as a gift from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit in Ankara, and the weapon is planned to be transferred to a museum.

This was stated by European Commission spokesman Olof Gill at a briefing in Brussels.

He explained that Erdogan's gift will be deactivated - the firing pin will be filed off the revolver, the barrel will be drilled, and it will be "transferred to a museum." "The firearm will be safely transported and sent for storage," Gill noted. "I can tell you that the European Commission president thanked President Erdogan for this gift. After it is deactivated, Commission President von der Leyen intends to transfer it to a museum."

Earlier, the European publication Politico reported that Erdogan presented all guests of the NATO summit with gift revolvers with engraving and six live cartridges in an expensive gift case.
