EU to unblock up to €10 billion in funding for Hungary

The EU Council has approved Hungary's amended plan for recovery and increasing resilience, which will allow the unblocking of up to €10 billion in European funding for this country.

Information about this is contained in a message from Hungary's mission to the EU on X.

"The EU Council has approved Hungary's amended recovery and resilience plan, which will open the way for European funding in the amount of up to €10 billion," the mission's message states.

In turn, the EU Council clarified in a separate message that this plan should provide Hungary with funding of €6.5 billion in the form of grants and €3.5 billion in the form of concessional loans.

The first version of this plan, developed by Viktor Orban's government, was effectively rejected by the European Commission.

EU countries' recovery and resilience plans are targeted applications for investments from the EU's off-budget funds aimed at recovery after COVID-19. To receive funds, they must be approved by the European Commission and the EU Council.
