Fidan: no grounds for open clash between Turkey and Israel

There are no grounds for an open military clash between Turkey and Israel, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.

"There are no reasons for an open conflict. Turkey will not allow itself to be drawn into such a situation," Fidan said in an interview with National.

He noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is committed to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and will not succumb to possible provocations.

At the same time, the minister again criticized the policy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the Turkish foreign minister, the actions of the current Israeli government are "a burden for Israel itself, the region and pose a threat to international security."

Fidan also expressed the opinion that Israel may not be interested in a stable and developing Syria, and added that the international community should increase pressure on Tel Aviv to ensure unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Relations between Turkey and Israel remain tense after the start of Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Ankara has repeatedly accused the Israeli authorities of disproportionate use of force against Palestinians, blocked trade relations with Israel and advocates the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem.
