Alston Lawrence: Baku Initiative Group does extremely important work for the future of the entire world

“Azerbaijan welcomed us incredibly hospitably. In my opinion, this country is a very suitable place to host so many states for a common cause.”

Alston Lawrence, secretary of the One SXM movement on Saint Martin, owner of The Main News, and a well-known radio and television host, told 1news.az correspondent this at the international conference “Media and Decolonization: Rising Voices, Strengthening Narratives” taking place in Baku at the initiative of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).

According to O. Lawrence, the Baku Initiative Group is doing extremely important work for the future of the entire world by uniting marginalized groups. The journalist clarified that by “marginalized” he means communities numbering in the millions of people who nevertheless remain on the sidelines on the world stage.

“This media conference is extremely important because the media is one of the last frontiers that has not yet been fully involved in the decolonization process. For those of us participating in this process, it is very valuable to be here, to discuss networking issues, to build closer ties with each other, and to exchange content so that decolonization ideas reach the widest possible audience. The Baku Initiative Group is doing an excellent job in this direction, and we are very glad to be here,” the guest emphasized.

The participant in the event also noted the beauty of the Azerbaijani capital: “Baku is beautiful. I myself come from a very beautiful place, but looking at this city, the Old City, and the Caspian Sea, I can honestly say: you have a truly wonderful country in this part of the world.”
