Syria holds first People's Council meeting after Assad regime ouster

For the first time after the overthrow of Bashar Assad's regime, a meeting of the Syrian People's Council was held.

During the formation of the parliament after the fall of Bashar Assad's regime, Abdelhamid Awwak was elected chairman of the Syrian People's Council.

After the election, the politician took the oath and officially assumed office.

The term of office of the People's Council, formed as part of the transitional period in Syria, is set at 30 months.
