Issue of recognizing 'Armenian genocide' removed from Knesset agenda after Baku pressure

After pressure from Azerbaijan, the issue of recognizing the so-called "Armenian genocide" was completely removed from the agenda of the Israeli Knesset.

Israeli officials officially assured the Azerbaijani side that the issue of recognizing the "Armenian genocide" has been removed from the Knesset agenda. According to an Israeli source, the vote on this topic was initiated by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, but it was blocked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This happened after the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan — Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev, on behalf of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, contacted the office of the Israeli prime minister.

Haaretz writes that following this, the Israeli government informed Azerbaijani officials about the removal of the issue from the parliament's agenda. The topic was not put to a vote at the last plenary sessions, which took place last week before the Knesset went on summer recess.
