Zelensky officially dismisses Syrsky: decree signed
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree dismissing Oleksandr Syrsky from the position of commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces.
The corresponding decree was published on the website of the Ukrainian president.
A week ago, Zelensky launched the process of updating the Cabinet of Ministers, which resulted in daily protests near the Office of the President. The reason for the rallies was the president's decision to dismiss then-Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov.
As Zelensky explained, the reason for the decision was a conflict between the minister and Commander-in-Chief Syrsky. Fedorov himself, after his dismissal, gave a briefing in which he also confirmed that he did not get along with Syrsky. According to him, he even suggested that the president replace the commander-in-chief.
Syrsky recently published a column in which he noted that he did not know that there was a conflict between them, but apologized to Fedorov. At the same time, he added: “I am not fighting with the ministry. I am fighting with Russia... My job is war. Strategy, front, people.”
It should be noted that Syrsky has been commander-in-chief since February 2024. Then he replaced Valery Zaluzhny in the position.
