Kallas complains about unpleasant surprise from US

The European Union (EU) will demand explanations from the US regarding the new tariffs.

This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas, Reuters reports.

She noted that the introduction of tariffs by Washington came as a complete surprise to Brussels.

"We had a deal with America, and we complied with this deal... Therefore, the non-compliance with this deal became an unpleasant surprise," Kallas said.

She also called unfounded the claim about the presence of weaknesses in EU legislation in the field of preventing forced labor.

Earlier, the office of the US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer reported the introduction of trade tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 12.5 percent against 60 countries, including those in the EU, due to their inability to ensure a ban on forced labor. They came into force on July 24 at 07:00 Moscow time.
