Patriarch Kirill has released a book about the benefits of war and declared Russia's "historic mission"

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' has released a new book titled "War.

Beyond Visible Causes and Consequences," which, as noted, is devoted to questions of the "metaphysics of war."

The press service of the Russian Orthodox Church reported on the publication. The book was published by the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate and contains the author's reflections on the spiritual causes of armed conflicts, the role of war in history, and the religious interpretation of current events.

According to the book's annotation, the patriarch asserts that the outcome of armed conflicts is determined not only by military or political factors, but also by the will of God.

In his opinion, victory belongs to "the one who is on the side of light," and a person's purpose lies in resisting evil and defending moral ideals. The book also states that war has "redemptive significance" and touches upon not only military-political but also spiritual aspects, including, as claimed, "the metaphysical frontiers and goal-setting of Russia," as well as "the racial aspect of war."

In addition, the book expresses the view that the Russian people possess "the strength to win" and must not renounce their "historical duty to be victors." The patriarch also proposes considering such concepts as sacrifice, heroic deed, patriotism, and victory through the prism of a spiritual worldview.

The position of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church on the issue of the war in Ukraine has remained unchanged since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022. Throughout this time, Patriarch Kirill has repeatedly spoken publicly in support of the actions of the Russian authorities.

In particular, he previously stated that Russian service members taking part in combat operations are not violating the commandment "thou shalt not kill." In addition, he called on citizens to thank God for the "prosperous time" that, in his words, was secured for the country by Russian President Vladimir Putin, called him "an example of a good Christian," and also addressed participants in the war with a call to remember eternal life, declaring that salvation awaits those killed on the battlefield.

In connection with his public support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Patriarch Kirill's name has repeatedly featured in discussions about the possible imposition of personal sanctions by European Union countries.
