Pashinyan confirms possibility of energy partnership with Azerbaijan

Armenia and Azerbaijan may have a partnership, including in the export and import of electricity.

This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Armenian media report.

According to him, Azerbaijani specialists had previously come to Armenia. Pashinyan confirmed that such visits took place in September 2025 and January 2026.

"During the meetings, issues related to power transmission lines, railway communication, pipelines and other infrastructure areas were discussed. Armenia and Azerbaijan may have a partnership, including in the export and import of electricity," Pashinyan said.

Earlier, President Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with Azerbaijani Television in Nakhchivan, warned of the risk of an energy crisis in Armenia after the closure of the Metsamor nuclear power plant and stated that Baku is ready to provide the country with an additional source of electricity.

According to the president, Azerbaijani specialists have already conducted the necessary studies on the territory of Armenia and identified the places where power line pylons could be installed. The president expressed hope that Armenia would not delay this, and noted that an additional source of electricity may be necessary first and foremost for Armenia itself.
