Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko visited a number of cultural and historical sites in the Azerbaijani capital alongside meetings with the country's top leadership, 1news.az informs.

According to a statement by Ukraine's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev on social media, Yushchenko paid tribute to Ukrainian pilot and National Hero of Azerbaijan Viktor Seryogin, who was killed in 1992 during the First Karabakh War.

The former Ukrainian president also visited Martyrs' Alley.

In addition, Yushchenko visited the museum ship Surakhany, where he viewed Ukrainian audio and video heritage created as part of an initiative by Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Yushchenko also attended the opening of the "War Through the Lens" photo exhibition at the Ukrainian Center in Baku. The exhibition was organized jointly with the Union of Photographers of Azerbaijan.

The diplomat noted that in 2022, Azerbaijani photographers Famil Mahmudbayli and Aziz Karimov visited Ukraine, where they documented the aftermath of Russian strikes and the lives of Ukrainians during the war.

Husyev also recalled that Yushchenko met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his visit.

"The sides discussed the current situation in the region and the world, ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan, as well as trade, economic and humanitarian initiatives," the ambassador wrote, adding that Yushchenko's visit to Baku had already concluded.

Husyev stressed that Ukraine highly values the support and assistance provided by the leadership and people of Azerbaijan and is interested in further strengthening friendship and partnership between the two countries.
