Passenger plane narrowly avoids crash during takeoff at Munich airport

A passenger plane with more than 280 people on board narrowly avoided a crash while departing from Munich airport.

This was reported by the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The publication notes that a Boeing 787 of Vietnam Airlines was scheduled to operate a flight from Munich to Hanoi on August 15. During takeoff, the plane did not have enough runway length, and it lifted off the ground with a delay. During the liftoff phase, the tail section touched the ground, raising a cloud of dust. The plane soon returned to the departure airport.

Photographs released by the Aviation Herald portal indicate that the aircraft's tail section was damaged and the tires of one of the landing gears burst. Citing video recordings of the incident, the portal writes that approximately 200 m before the end of the runway the plane's right landing gear brakes were activated, and the wheels became locked at approximately the moment when the airliner went beyond its limits.

At present, aviation and law enforcement authorities of Germany and Vietnam are investigating the causes of the incident. "It is necessary to examine additional facts concerning the human and technological factors, as well as organizational circumstances," the newspaper quotes a representative of the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation as saying.
