Pashinyan: Armenia decided to put an end to the "Karabakh movement," the people approved this decision

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in the National Assembly that the country's authorities have decided not to continue the "Karabakh movement" and to close this issue.

According to him, Armenian society supported this course in the parliamentary elections on June 7, 2026.

"We announced the decision not to continue the Karabakh movement, to put an end to it, and the people approved this decision," Pashinyan stated, Telegram channels report.

Touching on constitutional reform, the prime minister noted that the adoption of a new Constitution is an exclusively internal Armenian agenda. According to him, the citizens who voted for the ruling Civil Contract party thereby also supported the government's corresponding program.

Pashinyan again stated that the new basic law should not contain references to Armenia's 1990 Declaration of Independence. In his assessment, such a reference would mean "a return to the logic of conflict."

"We will publish the text of the new Constitution in the coming months," he said, adding that the new Constitution must reflect the authorities' current vision of the state.

Speaking about Armenia's state structure and priorities, Pashinyan stated that the republic's only functional significance lies in ensuring peace, freedom, and security for its citizens on the internationally recognized territory of 29,743 square kilometers, as well as in creating conditions for their well-being and preserving national identity.

"It was precisely for such a state and such a vision that the citizens of the Republic of Armenia voted on June 7, 2026," the prime minister stated.
