Prospects for cooperation between Baku and Vienna in the political, economic, energy, transportation, tourism, humanitarian and other spheres were discussed at a meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the newly appointed Ambassador of Austria to Azerbaijan, Etienne Berchtold.

According to the press service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Austrian diplomat presented copies of his credentials to J. Bayramov.

The meeting emphasized the importance of political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Austria. Along with this, it was noted that mutual visits and contacts, the political consultations mechanism, as well as interparliamentary ties play an important role in the development of bilateral relations.

The parties also discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations.

An exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the spheres of economy, energy and transportation, as well as on the strategic energy and transportation projects implemented at the initiative and with the participation of Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring Europe's energy security, and satisfaction was expressed with the start of deliveries of Azerbaijani natural gas to Austria beginning in January of this year.

In addition, the Austrian side was provided with information about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the process of normalizing Azerbaijani-Armenian relations, the steps taken by Baku toward ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, and the emerging challenges. Along with this, attention was drawn to the large-scale restoration and construction work being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation.

E. Berchtold stated that his country regards Azerbaijan as an important and reliable partner, and noted that during his tenure he will make every effort for the further development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria in all areas.
