Peskov: Putin will discuss Armenia's aspiration to join the EU with Pashinyan

Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to discuss Yerevan's aspiration to join the European Union during his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek.

As 1news.az reports, this was stated by the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.

"Every time, contact at the highest level is important. The president will, of course, use this meeting to once again renew our arguments," Peskov told journalists, answering a question about whether the upcoming meeting between Putin and Pashinyan would help stop Armenia's drift away from Russia.

According to him, the decision about the country's future must be made by the Armenians themselves.

"We cannot be more Armenian than the Armenians themselves. And, of course, the Armenians themselves will make the decision about their own fate," Peskov noted.

He added that Russia is proposing that Armenia hold a referendum on the question of the country's future course. According to Peskov, a similar proposal is contained in the statement of the heads of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union adopted at the recent summit in Astana.

"That is what the conversation will be about," the Russian president's press secretary said.
