A powerful pyrotechnics explosion occurred in Mexico during preparations for a religious festival
A pyrotechnics explosion went off in the Mexican community of Santa María Canchesdá (municipality of Temascalcingo, State of Mexico). The emergency occurred near the local church during preparations for festivities in honor of the community's patron saint.
The blast wave completely destroyed or damaged a neighboring building. A large-scale rescue operation has been deployed at the scene involving emergency services, firefighters, and civil protection units, who are searching for people under the rubble.
According to preliminary data from local authorities, at least 20 people were injured as a result of the incident, however there are reports that the number of injured may exceed three dozen. Information about those killed is being verified by the relevant agencies.
