Former Azerbaijani consul general in St. Petersburg charged with smuggling

The former consul general of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg is charged with smuggling.

As APA has learned, former consul Sultan Gasimov is accused of smuggling gold on a large scale.

The criminal case was investigated by the prosecutor's office. He has been charged under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation into the criminal case has been completed, and the materials have been sent to court.

The case will be heard shortly at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.

Sultan Muhammad oglu Gasimov was appointed the first consul general of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation, in 2009. In 2016, he was recalled from the position of consul general.

On May 3, 2016, he was appointed consul general of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg.

On October 21, 2024, he was recalled from this position.
