Kazakhstan not admitted to Eurovision 2027
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has refused to grant full membership to Kazakhstan's state television and radio company Khabar, which is required for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.
This was reported by Politico, citing a statement from the organization.
As noted, Khabar does not meet the established criteria for full membership, since Kazakhstan lies outside the European Broadcasting Area, is not a member of the Council of Europe, and does not hold official observer status with that organization.
The Khabar channel represented Kazakhstan five times at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest — from 2018 to 2022. During that time, Kazakh participants twice took second place. However, as the publication notes, associate membership in the EBU does not automatically grant the right to participate in the adult contest.
The EBU rules, relaxed in June 2026, allow broadcasters from some countries outside Europe to become full members of the organization. Canada's CBC/Radio-Canada is cited as an example.
