Budanov: Ukraine is preparing for peace talks in October

A new round of peace talks in a trilateral format between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia may take place in October.

As 1news.az reports, this was stated by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine agency on the sidelines of the YES meeting in Kyiv.

"We are preparing. For October," Budanov said.

He also confirmed that a trilateral format is being discussed. However, he declined to comment on the possible venue for the talks.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the talks held by special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Kyiv and Moscow this past weekend substantive, expressing hope that they would help pave the way for a resumption of negotiations.

Recall that on September 6, Witkoff and Kushner were in Kyiv, where they held talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as with European partners. The day before, they visited Moscow, where they met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

After the meeting, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to return to trilateral talks on ending the war with the participation of the U.S. and Russia. He also reported an agreement on a next meeting involving representatives of Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe.
