In Azerbaijan, time served in rank will be reduced for master's and doctoral studies
Azerbaijan plans to change the procedure for calculating the length of time servicemen spend in military ranks, taking into account the education and academic degrees they have received.
As 1news.az reports, citing APA, the relevant amendments were discussed at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Defense, Security and Combating Corruption.
Under the proposed amendments, officers who have successfully completed a master's program or residency, as well as those who have completed doctoral studies or adjunct studies and received the corresponding academic degree by order of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and other state bodies where military service is provided for, will have their time in military rank reduced by one year.
Such a reduction will be applied once for each of the specified levels of education.
The changes will also affect the procedure for serving in the rank of "lieutenant." Currently, for servicemen who have graduated from specialized educational institutions with a duration of study of five years or more, the term in this rank is one year.
In accordance with the bill, for graduates of special educational institutions with a five-year term of study, this period will be increased to two years. An exception will be made for aviation flight personnel and servicemen serving on submarines, for whom the term will remain one year.
In a number of other cases, the term in the rank of "lieutenant" will be one year. The list of such cases will be determined by the relevant executive authority.
