Gold mine collapse in Sudan: there are casualties

At least 11 people were killed and about 30 more were injured as a result of the collapse of a gold mine shaft in northeastern Sudan.

This was reported by AP, citing local authorities. The search for people who may be under the rubble is continuing.

The incident occurred in the remote area of Oni. According to eyewitnesses, the collapse began on Saturday evening. A representative of the state-owned company Sudanese Mineral Resources Co. said that by Sunday the bodies of 11 victims had been found, and another 30 people had been rescued.

This is already the second major collapse at Sudan's informal gold mines in the past week. Earlier, in the west of the country, at least 82 people were killed as a result of a series of mine collapses.
