Macron asks European Commission head to temporarily ease European fuel rules

French President Emmanuel Macron has approached European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen with a proposal to temporarily ease European fuel requirements in order to lower prices in the short term.

As BFMTV reports, the corresponding proposal is contained in Macron's letter to von der Leyen.

In particular, the French president proposes easing EU fuel quality requirements on an exceptional and temporary basis, which would make it possible to increase production volumes at oil refineries.

In addition, Macron came out in favor of easing requirements on the mandatory biofuel content in diesel. According to the television channel, this should help increase the supply of diesel fuel on the market.
