Trial of former Azerbaijani consul general in St. Petersburg Sultan Gasimov postponed

Another court hearing was held in the criminal case of the former Consul General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg, Sultan Gasimov, who is accused of fraud.

As APA reports, at today's hearing at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes, presided over by Judge Firdovsi Aliyev, Sultan Gasimov's lawyer was not present.

For this reason, the hearing was postponed to September 30.

It should be noted that the criminal case against the former consul general was investigated by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General. It was established that the victims were caused damage in the amount of more than 200,000 manats. Anton Zayats and Faig Mikailov were recognized as victims in the case. Part of the total damage was compensated during the investigation.

According to the case materials, Sultan Gasimov promised a citizen living in Russia that he would acquire a plot of land for him through an auction. In addition, he promised another victim to transport gold by air to another country.

He has been charged under Articles 12.1, 178.3.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (fraud committed on the territory of a foreign state causing significant damage). The investigation of the criminal case has been completed, and the materials have been sent to court.

In 2009, Sultan Gasimov was appointed the first Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation. In 2016, he was recalled from the post of consul general.

On May 3, 2016, he was appointed Consul General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg. On October 21, 2024, he was recalled from this post.
