Cable damage caused disruptions at U.S. airports

Disruptions occurred at airports in the United States due to damage to a fiber-optic cable in New Jersey.

A construction crew accidentally cut the cable, which led to disruptions in the communication system with air traffic control services. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily suspended the acceptance of flights at airports in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston.

Across the country, more than 7,000 flights were delayed or canceled. At New York airports, about 1,400 flights were affected, and more than 100 were rerouted.

Authorities reported that repairing the cable could take about 13 hours.
