Iran ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days under one condition
Iran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eases military pressure and lifts the blockade of Iranian ports, a senior Iranian official told Reuters.
According to him, Washington must officially declare its readiness to settle the situation through diplomatic means, after which the parties will be able to agree on the timeline for the further process.
The Iranian delegation to the UN General Assembly is in New York and has received full authority to resume negotiations with the United States.
Iran conveyed its proposal to the United States through intermediaries on September 16. The details of a possible agreement on ending hostilities between Tehran and Washington may be discussed in New York through intermediaries.
“The UN General Assembly is a golden opportunity for the United States to return to diplomacy,” the official said. According to him, Tehran would welcome the resumption of the diplomatic process if Washington takes concrete steps.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has departed from Tehran for New York, but he will not meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at UN headquarters, the agency’s source said.
