On September 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Adebayo Ogunlesi, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) – a global infrastructure investment company operating within the structure of BlackRock, one of the world's leading asset management companies.
During the conversation, the meeting of the head of our state with Adebayo Ogunlesi held in Davos in January this year was noted.
The significance of the protocol of intent on long-term cooperation signed in Davos between the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ), BlackRock and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) was emphasized.
At the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the development of investment cooperation between Azerbaijan and the company, and an exchange of views took place on the results achieved and the prospects for expanding the partnership.
It was emphasized that the partnership between the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) already covers specific international investment projects. In this regard, it was noted that the Fund, together with this company, invested in the Italian high-speed train operator Italo and London's Gatwick Airport.
An exchange of views took place on our country's investment opportunities in the infrastructure sphere, including issues of potential cooperation in the areas of digital and transport infrastructure.
During the conversation, the significance of the second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum organized in Baku under the patronage of President Ilham Aliyev, and of the Dialogue on Infrastructure Investments in Azerbaijan held within its framework, co-organized by the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ARDNF) and BlackRock, was touched upon. It was emphasized that companies managing assets worth 30 trillion US dollars are taking part in these events.
It should be noted that since 2024 Global Infrastructure Partners has operated within the structure of BlackRock – the world's largest investment management company. BlackRock, which manages assets worth 15.3 trillion US dollars, is a global investment company specializing in the fields of energy, transport, digital infrastructure, water resources and waste management. The volume of assets under the management of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) amounts to 170 billion US dollars. This company, along with BlackRock, Microsoft and MGX, is also one of the main founders of the Global Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Investment Partnership.
