The IX Congress of Azerbaijani journalists will be held - PHOTO
On September 26, a meeting of the Board of the Press Council of Azerbaijan was held.
As the Press Council told AZERTAC, first, in connection with September 27 – Remembrance Day, the memory of the sons of the Motherland who heroically died for the freedom of our lands was honored with a minute of silence.
Opening the meeting, Press Council Chairman Rashad Majid noted that 4 years have passed since the last – VIII Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists (September 24, 2022) and, according to the Council's Charter, it is necessary to organize a new – IX Congress. Therefore, in order to prepare for the congress, it is necessary to form an Organizing Committee (OC).
The meeting emphasized the importance of taking into account the experience of previous congresses and the representation of all members of the Press Council board in the OC. The proposal was put to a vote and deemed acceptable.
During the discussion of the timing of the congress, the possibility of organizing it on October 15 of this year was emphasized, and a final decision was made on this issue.
To optimize the number of participants, it was deemed acceptable for 2 representatives from daily newspapers and news agencies and 1 representative from weekly newspapers, magazines, news websites, and journalistic organizations to take part in the congress. The proposal was put to a vote and adopted.
During the discussion of the Press Council's upcoming work plan, it was stated that the member organizations of the Press Council must submit to the OC the names of their representatives who will take part in the congress, as well as the list of candidates for the board, by October 12. For this purpose, a separate section, "IX Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists," will be created on the official website of the Press Council, presscouncil.az.
Initially, two questionnaires will be posted in the "IX Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists" section. In the first questionnaire, member organizations will indicate the names of their candidates for the board, and in the second – the names of their representatives who will take part in the congress.
Accordingly, in the first questionnaire, daily newspapers and news agencies will indicate the names of 2 representatives, and weekly newspapers, websites, and journalistic organizations – the name of 1 representative, and submit it to the OC.
As is known, the board of the Press Council consists of 23 members. Of these, 14 represent journalists, and 9 represent the public. The second questionnaire will be drawn up in accordance with this distribution. That is, member organizations will indicate the names of candidates on the basis of and in the number specified in the second questionnaire and submit it to the OC.
It is also known that, in accordance with the regulations, the Chairman of the Press Council, the board members, as well as the control and inspection commission of 5 people are direct representatives of the congress. The OC considered it appropriate to include in the list of persons who will participate in the congress with the right to vote the members of the Council of Senior Journalists, as well as a group of journalists who participated in the Patriotic War.
The meeting also noted that far from all organizations that are members of the Press Council pay membership fees, and it was substantiated that this fact should affect their participation in the congress. It was emphasized that the connection of member organizations with the Press Council is determined by the payment of membership fees. Failure to fulfill the existing obligation is grounds for restricting participation in the congress. Therefore, the OC calls on organizations that are members of the Press Council to pay off their membership fee arrears.
