Proceedings initiated in Armenia against judge who released brother and nephew of Garegin II

Armenia's Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan has initiated administrative proceedings against Gevorg Manukyan, the judge in the case of the brother and nephew of the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.

Manukyan will appear before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on October 12, Pastinfo reports.

Note that the Catholicos' brother Gevorg Nersisyan and nephew Hambardzum Nersisyan were released from house arrest on May 7 of this year. Judge Gevorg Manukyan then decided to change the preventive measure from house arrest to administrative supervision.

Gevorg Nersisyan and his son Hambardzum Nersisyan were arrested on November 3, 2025. According to the investigation, on November 1, in the village of Voskeat, which is part of the enlarged community of Vagharshapat, they got into a conflict with a representative of the Republic party who was distributing campaign materials, and insulted him. On November 17, the case was sent to court.

The arrest of the relatives of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church took place against the backdrop of the escalating confrontation between the authorities and the Church.
