Bayramov discusses humanitarian situation and regional agenda with ICRC head - PHOTO

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.

In the course of the meeting, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was emphasized that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC is long-term and based on mutual trust, while the importance of continuing regular contacts between the parties was noted. The interlocutors discussed the humanitarian activities carried out by the ICRC in the region and highlighted the significance of the support that Azerbaijan provides to these initiatives.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the guest that, against the backdrop of regional tensions and military actions, Azerbaijan has always remained committed to humanitarian principles, including providing humanitarian assistance to Iran during periods of ongoing military operations there. It was noted that in the modern era, armed conflicts primarily result in severe consequences for civilian populations, underscoring the need to intensify the efforts of the international community in this direction. In this context, special attention was paid to Azerbaijan’s commitment to the norms of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as their strict observance.

In addition, the meeting addressed steps toward establishing peace and stability in the region in the post-conflict period. Jeyhun Bayramov informed the ICRC President about the work being carried out to advance the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to strengthen mutual trust. At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
