When is the minimum wage increase expected?
An increase in the minimum wage ensures growth in payments not only for low-paid workers but also across all levels of the unified tariff scale.
As reported by 1news.az, this was written on his social media page by member of the Milli Majlis committee on labor and social policy, deputy Vugar Bayramov.
The lawmaker noted that monthly tariff (official) salaries of employees in sectors financed from the state budget are brought into line with the new minimum wage within a month after its increase:
"This includes official salaries of employees who do not have civil servant status and work in such areas as social protection, science, culture, youth and sports, agriculture, ecology and environmental protection, housing and utilities, transport and communications, land reclamation, water management, and fisheries.
The unified tariff scale defines wages across 19 grades. Currently, the minimum salary is 400 manats and the maximum is 1,150 manats. Periodic increases in the minimum wage will in practice cover all grades. It does not matter whether an employee's current salary is above or below the minimum level. Overall, raising the minimum wage could lead to income growth for 700,000 of our citizens."
The deputy also recalled that, according to amendments to the Labor Code, the wage level must be reviewed at least once a year:
"In certain years the increase may be more significant. It should be noted that after the next minimum wage hike, this process will become more regular, as legislation provides for indexation (review) of the minimum wage at least once a year."
